KAUST supports women in cybersecurity

KAUST has launched the Early Career Accelerator Program (ECAP) for Women in Cybersecurity to promote gender diversity in Saudi Arabia's cybersecurity workforce. The program provides training to Saudi female graduates in security, governance, risk, and compliance, in collaboration with RSA Security LLC. The inaugural program included four graduates from Prince Mugrin University who received training in integrated risk management and will receive ongoing mentoring from KAUST and RSA. Why it matters: This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Cybersecurity Authority’s efforts to increase female participation in cybersecurity, addressing the global skills gap and strengthening the Kingdom's cyber defenses.

Smart Bandage wins IEEE MECAP’16 Best Paper Award

A smart bandage developed by KAUST's Associate Professor Atif Shamim and Ph.D. student Mohammed Farooqui won the IEEE MECAP’16 Best Paper Award. The smart bandage is a medical device that wirelessly communicates wound parameters and abnormalities to healthcare providers. It monitors the wound's recovery process. Why it matters: This recognition highlights the innovative research and development in healthcare technology emerging from Saudi Arabia.

Pioneering materials science

KAUST students and faculty attended the 2017 Materials Research Society (MRS) Spring Meeting & Exhibit in Phoenix, Arizona. KAUST students also participated in the 2016 MRS Fall Meeting & Exhibit in Boston, Massachusetts, where they organized seminars and workshops. Rahim Munir represented the KAUST student chapter at the Spring 2017 event, attending a luncheon to recap the Fall 2016 communication seminars.
